Re-Collecting & Re-Membering Yourself

Updated: May 20

Sometimes we can feel it coming.

It arrives, like a tsunami, though we’re barely treading water.

Often it haunts us in the dark watches of the night, when sleep has fled, like a frightened child.

At other times, it abandons us to the parched, chill landscape of a darkening desert.

Unbridled change thunders through our lives, hooves devouring the path before us, scattering mudding clods of hopes and dreams into nearby ditches.

For women in their Regency years, 45 - 70 +, Change has the power to remake us or break us.

MIDLIFE CHANGE IS MORE THAN MENOPAUSE

Menopause is having a big moment right now. I'm grateful to have such amazing women entering into the menopause conversation. After 10 years of talking about it nonstop, it's great to have some company. However, menopause is not the only change women experience during Regency.

We undergo a triple transformation, one part is physical, the menopause transformation; one part is psychological, the midlife transformation; and one part is spiritual, the reassessment of our meaning, purpose, and belonging.

These three profound changes can completely recreate a woman and her life.

The life stage before Regency is your Householder years. It is during this time that biology, instinct, intuition, and culture encourage us to care for everyone and everything else, including our families, friends, careers, colleagues, and communities.

Midlife, a psychological stage of development in the human psyche, can start as early as the 30s or as late as the as the 50s. The midlife shift is as individual to each woman as her menopause experience.

The overlapping transformations of menopause and midlife offer women a unique, once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to re-collect their former selves, their passions, hopes, dreams, and create a new Regent identity.

When understood and used to a woman's advantage, this is the perfect time of life to re-member yourself. This is the time to look for, rediscover, and reclaim the goals and dreams you had for yourself... before you spent 20 to 30 years tending everyone else's garden.

Change is the engine that drives women's lives during Regency and for the rest of our lives.

Befriend her or try to flee from her; she is here to stay.

If you've made it this far, you've lived through the swerves and plot twists that life has thrown your way.

When we resist the wisdom and gifts that Change brings, we can find ourselves knocking on closed doors.

Don't tread water for too long; don't lie awake at night fretting, wishing, and dreaming without a plan, and don't let yourself die of thirst when there is a well of ever-renewing waters within your grasp.

Now is the time to re-member who you are. You are one of the first women in human history to experience life past menopause with your entire generational cohort.

You are part of the generations of women who are destined to begin rebalancing the scales of life.

Now is the time to reclaim your hopes and dreams. Now is the time to embrace change and start creating your most authentic and fulfilling life, for the greter good.

Don’t wait any longer.

 Namasté,

 Dr. A.
