About the Event
Join Women’s midlife expert Dr. A. in a half-day online workshop that can help you begin to shed some light onto the complexities of the mother /daughter relationship.
As mothers, from the moment we give birth, adopt or take on the raising of daughters, we are destined for the pain of separation, individuation, and an empty nest. All the while being challenged by the memory of our experience with our mothers.
As daughters, we can't choose our mothers, how we were raised, if we were seen, heard, appreciated, understood or loved. We grew up and contended with becoming an individual with a self-image formed in part by our mother's view of us.
It’s possible as granddaughters, daughters, mothers, and grandmothers, we occupy two or more of these roles simultaneously, or for some, the roles have been reversed, with the daughters now caring for the aging mothers. This can be especially challenging.
Whether you are swimming in the water of the mother, the daughter, or both, this nurturing and supportive workshop will explore myths, tales, and metaphors from both sides of this archetypal relationship, opening up new ways of thinking about your life and relationships.
We will journey from the ancient world of Demeter & Persephone to the fairytales and folktales of Snow White, Cinderella, Rapunzel, the Ugly Duckling, Vasalisa, The Snow Queen, and more. These archetypal tales have wisdom to share about the universal experiences of mothers and daughters.
These stories will help us begin to untie our knots tangled around family, generational trauma, reality vs. the idealized images of mother/daughter relationships, and everyone’s individuation, including midlife women.
1. Learn to identify the universal and archetypal experiences of mothers and daughters and where you are in your story.
2. Discover the positive and negative archetypes of Mother and Daughter. Through these universal stories about what it means to be mothers and daughters we’re invited to consider new persepctives.
3. Understand how generational trauma and millennia of patriarchy may have negatively affected your life and your female relationships. We will consider if it’s possible to make the conscious choice to end it now.
4. Explore the role that boundaries, and compassion for self and others can play in creating a better relationship on both sides of the mother-daughter tangle.
5. This half-day workshop will help build a mythic perspective of these power-filled relationships, empowering us to reclaim our ancestry, history, relationships, and ourselves.
There will be time to share our place in the mother-daughter tangle with each other and receive support from a group of like-minded women.
ON ZOOM. Saturday, June 29th 9:00 am — 3:00 pm Pacific     is      12:00 pm – 6:00 pm Eastern
